Monitoring in the Ukraine

On March 16, 2017 hat the Permanent Council of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) extended the Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) to Ukraine through March 31, 2018. There are currently around 800 international observers and additional mission members in the field. With around 30 seconded staff, Germany currently has one of the largest contingents.

Since July 2014 the OSCE Observer Mission at the Russian Checkpoints Gukovo
and Donetsk
with 16 civilian observers has been monitoring Russian-Ukrainian border crossings (Donetsk in the Rostov Oblast; not to be confused with the eastern Ukrainian regional capital of the same name). The mission is stationed on Russian territory.
