Your first step on the way to deployment: ZIF Expert Roster

You apply online for our expert roster. Following the application process including interview, we will invite you to an introductory course, which prepares you for the job in a variety of ways.

Once you are in the ZIF Expert Roster, we will provide you with comprehensive supervision before, during and after a peace mission or election observation operation within the scope of our Duty of Care cycle.

This includes...

Assignment in peace operations and election observation missions through:

  • Setting up contacts with future colleagues in the mission;
  • Designated contacts at ZIF and consultation in the application process;
  • Preparation for the deployment;
  • Assistance in the signing of a secondment contract with the German Foreign Office;
  • Consultation concerning preparations for departure.

Supervision during deployment through:

  • Designated contacts at ZIF for all questions concerning secondment;
  • Visits by ZIF staff in peace missions;
  • Construction of networks of German civilian experts in certain deployment areas of international peace missions;
  • Appointment of civilian coordinators in peace missions with a significant involvement of German civilian personnel, in order to support seconded German staff in the mission;
  • Further training within the scope of specialization courses.

Support after deployment through:

  • Designated contacts at ZIF for all questions concerning your return to Germany;
  • Follow-up on peace operations via the option of individual meetings at ZIF and/or the German Foreign Office (in some cases also with election observation missions);
  • Provision of post-deployment reunions;
  • Further training within the scope of specialization courses.
